Custom Tank Designs for Specialized Industrial Applications

No two industrial tank projects start with the same conditions. One facility may need to replace a tank inside an existing footprint, while another may need a new vessel for a harsh chemical process.

The design should account for what the tank will hold, where it needs to fit, how it will connect to the process, and how crews will service it after installation.

Design Around the Application

Material selection should follow the service conditions. Plastic tanks can handle demanding environments, but the material still needs to match the chemical exposure, temperature, and operating requirements.

We work with polypropylene and PVC for many projects and can also fabricate with CPVC, polyethylene, Kynar®, and other plastics when the application calls for a different material.

Reviewing chemical compatibility early helps avoid problems after installation. It also gives customers time to address fit, access, or temperature concerns before material reaches our shop.

Fit the Tank to the Facility

Many tank projects come with space limits. Existing piping, platforms, doorways, or fixed equipment can affect the final dimensions. Custom fabrication lets us work within those constraints, whether the project calls for a small vessel or a tank more than 50 feet long.

We also consider how the tank will reach its final location. A tank that fits the operating area still needs a workable path through the facility.

Plan Connections, Reinforcement, and Service Access

Inlets, outlets, drains, and fittings should support the existing piping layout and daily use. A connection in the wrong location can create extra installation work or place stress near nearby equipment, so we prefer to work through those details before fabrication begins.

Larger tanks may also need reinforcement to help control sidewall bowing. Depending on the design, we may use plastic-encapsulated steel bands or internal baffles. We also review access for cleaning, inspection, covers, and drains so the finished tank is easier to maintain.

Look at the Tank as Part of the System

A tank rarely works alone. It may connect with pumps, process piping, or ancillary equipment, which means the surrounding system can influence the final design.

The same applies to custom water tanks. Water storage may call for a specific footprint or connection layout based on nearby equipment. We can fabricate single tanks as well as integrated systems that include process piping or ancillary features for a manufacturing process.

Looking at those relationships early helps us build a tank that fits the process instead of leaving the installation team to work around avoidable conflicts.
